Pacnet. Powering a Connected Asia.
With the merger of Asia Netcom and Pacific Internet we have created Asia’s leading independent telecommunications service provider with the largest regional footprint and the region’s most extensive sub-sea cable infrastructure.
Launched in January 2008 with the operational merger of Asia Netcom and Pacific Internet, Pacnet is backed by the long and illustrious history of these two pioneering Asian telcos.
The former Asia Netcom has its roots in Asia Global Crossing’s US$2 billion investment in building a next generation sub-sea cable network, EAC, to connect key markets in Asia. In 2003, the company was bought by a consortium led by China Netcom. With industry-leading growth and an unsurpassed portfolio of enterprise and carrier solutions, Asia Netcom was sold to Connect Holdings in 2006 and in 2007, merged with C2C, another cable network owned by the same investor group, to create the region’s largest submarine cable network EAC-C2C.
The former Pacific Internet Limited was the largest telco-independent Internet Communications Service Provider by geographic reach in the Asia Pacific region. The company delivers a comprehensive suite of Internet data, voice and video services to corporate business and consumer customers. Pacific Internet started in 1991 as TechNet, the research and development network of the National University of Singapore. In 1999, the company listed on NASDAQ and continued to further expand its footprint into Australia, Thailand and Malaysia.
In 2007, Connect Holdings acquired majority of the shares of Pacific Internet, after which, Pacific Internet was delisted from NASDAQ. Connect Holdings was renamed Pacnet Limited in 2008 and completed the acquisition of the remaining shares of Pacific Internet in the fourth quarter of 2008.
5 key value propositions that drive service quality and customer satisfaction
We are Asia Pacific’s leading submarine cable network
Pacnet’s EAC-C2C network is the region’s largest privately-owned submarine cable system, spaning 36,800 kms between Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Singapore and China. This state-of-the-art cable system features a total design capacity of 10.24 Tbps.
We deliver a next generation core network platform
Pacnet has initiated an upgrade of its integrated EAC-C2C core network platform with ASON (Automatically Switched Optical Network) and GMPLS (Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching), which will enable a new set of features such as meshed protection on the optical layer, auto-provisioning and optimized routing of traffic to support latency-sensitive applications such as video and IPTV.
We are all about customer care
Pacnet’s customer care for SMEs, and in the Carriers and Enterprise space, has swept customer service awards and industry analysts’ recognition across the region. Recent accolades include Asia Pacific Customer Service Recognition of Excellence 2007, Best Contact Center Champion of the Year, 2007 and Best Contact Center Champion at the 2007 CCAS International Contact Center Awards.

Our State-of-the-Art Network Platform
At the heart of Pacnet is EAC-C2C, our recently integrated state-of-the-art fiber optic submarine cable network spanning 36,800 kilometers between Hong Kong, China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines and Singapore. The integration of these two networks into a single system – with dual landings and 33 PoPs (Points-of-Presence) in key markets — marks a new milestone in the company’s focus on strengthening its position as the region’s leading provider of next-generation communications solutions.
Leveraging the combined EAC and C2C network not only puts Pacnet in a ‘pure play’ position to accommodate the region’s growth, pur but also lays the foundation upon which we are building our next-generation network with focus on service innovation and technology leadership.
The combined EAC and C2C network platform has a US$4 billion replacement value with a retail value of US$10.3 billion in today’s market. The integrated infrastructure also gives the company management flexibility while offering industry-leading infrastructure resiliency and enhanced route diversity and protection.
The integrated core network platform, currently being upgraded with GMPLS (Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching), will enable a new set of features such as meshed protection on the optical layer, auto-provisioning, and optimized routing of traffic to support latency-sensitive applications such as video and IPTV. The combined EAC-C2C infrastructure also enables Pacnet to strengthen its PoPs and Cable Landing Station resilience through full interconnection between the two systems.
Unlike consortium cable systems with multiple owners and often contrasting interests, EAC-C2C is wholly-owned by Pacnet. Full ownership means we have full control of the network elements, allowing us to maintain the highest level of performance for our customers, which we back up with the industry’s most competitive Service Level Agreements (SLA). For our customers, this means they are buying directly from the owner, and avoid the extra cost and complexity of purchasing through an intermediate vendor. Direct access to the network also means we can provision services faster, identify and fixed problems quicker, and respond to customer requirements in real time.
